Wendy is the driving force behind Woodland Pottery. Our original and custom pottery is made right here in Hendersonville the old-fashioned way, starting with a lump of clay and turning it on a potter’s wheel into its own unique shape. Next the piece is fired, glazed, and fired again, to complete a seven-step process. Finished pieces are food-safe, dishwasher and oven-proof, and available for sale in our online store. Orders may be picked up at our studio location. For our Production Pottery, wholesale pricing is available for orders of 36 pieces or more.
We also teach Pottery Classes in our commercial pottery studio located in the building behind "Kingfisher Airbnb," building. To see our schedule for class dates and times, just click on the "Book Online".
Woodland Gallery is located at 126 Powell Drive in the historic side of town, between Stadium Drive and Shivel Street. From Gallatin Road, Powell Drive is two streets north of McDonalds.
One Time Try-It Classes on the Potter's Wheel
Our one-time-try-it-class on the potter's wheel, is a fun time to try something new. Our class begins with a demonstration of how the potter's wheels work. Our instructor will show you how to control the speeds, and the different hand positions to create a vase or a bowl. After the demonstration, you will get your clay, and have the opportunity to create your own pot on the wheel.
3-week Clay Camp for Kids
The first week, children learn to create many pots on the potter's wheel. The Second week children learn to use a slab roller to create trays, bowls and bird feeders. The third week children glaze all their masterpieces, and load the kiln for a 12 hour kiln firing. The class will choose an "open the kiln day" when everyone can come and retrieve their pottery.
6-week Potter's Wheel and Slab Classes
Our 6 week pottery class consists of learning to make pots on the potter's wheel. The class focuses on centering the clay, pulling up and trimming. Glazing is also a big part of this class. A slab roller is also available for students who wish to hand build with clay.
"Build a Bowl Workshop"
"Build a Bowl Workshop", is a parent/child class we offer 4 times per year.. Bring your child to class, and together build a large fruit bowl using clay cutouts of your child's handprints. These make great gifts for Grandmothers and other family members. We will glaze the bowl for you from a color you choose the day you make your bowl. Bowls will be ready to take home the following week. Total cost is $65 per bowl, children are free.
