Woodland Pottery Studio is located in the building behind Woodland Gallery. Here we offer classes in a friendly work environment where you can come and express your creative talents with clay. Those with little or no experience are welcome to explore this fun activity. Our instructors will show you how to create a pot on the potter’s wheel through a wide variety of classes designed to fit each skill level.

Adult Six-week Potter’s Wheel Class. In this class students will learn the basic wheel skills of centering, opening, pulling up, shaping, and trimming, as well as glazing. Cost is just $150. and includes instruction, and use of studio tools. $45 material fee includes clay,  glaze and all kiln firings.

Adult Three-week Potter’s Wheel / slab Class: $75. + $25 materials and firing fee This is officially a slab-building class, however the potter’s wheels are available for any student who would like to throw a piece to combine with their slab project.  (Usually a Summer Class)

*  One Time Try-it Class. Friday Nights from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm, we welcome beginners to come visit our studio and try out the potter’s wheel.  Cost for the class is just $25. per person, and includes instruction, use of tools, and clay and all kiln firings. Your finished pot will be ready to take home the following week.  

Home School Students Welcome, At selected times of the year, we have a special camp for Home School students. This class starts off with a demonstration of how pottery is made on the Potter’s Wheel. Then the students will have a turn to try their skill. For more information send an email to:

Potter’s Wheel Classes for Teens. This is a fun class for teenagers. They will learn how to center clay on the Potter’s Wheel, form and shape their pots. Also experience kiln firings, and glazing techniques.

Classes for Kids on Saturdays:  “Clay Camp for Kids” This is a fun time that focuses on various clay building techniques. Students are challenged to think creativity, gain dexterity, and accomplish goals while forming friendships and having fun. Week #1,  kids learn to use a potter’s wheel. Week #2,  they learn to use a slab roller to create large bowls and fossil trays. Week #3,  they glaze all their projects with our food safe, microwave safe, dishwasher and oven safe glazes. No experience necessary.

Parent / Child Pottery Classes: “Build a Bowl Workshop” Create a large fruit bowl with your child, using clay cut-outs of your child’s hands. This is not only FUN,  but memorable family time spent together.  Choose a color glaze you would like your finished bowl to be, and we will glaze and fire your clay bowl for you.  Bowls will be ready to take home the following week.

Upcoming Wheel Classes. Advance your skills in throwing mugs, plates, mini-pots, bowls, jars and lids. Intermediate/ advanced classes in teapots, throwing square forms, and glazing.

Hand-building Classes. Learn to make clay jewelry, slab bowls and plates, trays, platters, and drape molds, sculpture, coil and free-form pieces. Learn to decorate with texture, patterns, and stamps.

Mother’s Night Out. Leave the kids with dad, grab some friends and come to the studio for a fun evening of throwing pots. Just call to make an appointment for a weekday evening. Please wear old clothes and bring a towel for your hands. $25.00 per person.

Glazing Classes. Learn to make bamboo glazing brushes, and explore dipping, brushing, pouring, and sponging. This class will also include different techniques in glazing, wax resist, composition and motif, transparent glazes vs. translucent glaze and what happens when you overlap glaze. Some glaze chemistry and firing techniques will also be explored.

Make up classes. If you have to miss a class during a 6 week session,  that class may be made up during the week in a different class or at a different time.

Special Home School Clay Camp. Discounted group rate are available for siblings of home school students.  This is a fun time for home school kids to come and experience the fun of working with clay.  Recommended for ages 6 yrs. and older. (call 348-0060 to set up a time to bring your group)

“Birthday Parties”. We welcome your children and their friends for a party.  We have 7 potter’s wheels.  Children may make a pot on the potter’s wheel, and bring the finished pot home the following week.

Firing Fees for pottery  made outside our studio: Woodland Gallery charges $2.00 per pound to bisque fire pottery brought to us from home, and $2.50 per pound for glaze firing.


“Important information” Photo Release: Please note Woodland Gallery may take photographs of classes and post them on FaceBook, or use photographs for publications.  Please notify a member of our staff if you do not wish you or your child’s photograph to be taken.

PHOTOGRAPHY WEEKEND WORKSHOPS: Workshops in digital and film photography offered. Rental cameras available. Come to our studio on a Friday night for a class on how your camera works, and what all the buttons and modes are for. Saturday class will meet at sunrise to capture the beautiful colors that happen in the early morning which most people miss by sleeping in.
